One of the real joys I have discovered later in life is taking care of the environment. There is a local pond near the Hill House High School, Beaver Pond, and it is lovely. Lovely but also strewn with trash, nip bottles, bags, old tires and all kinds of micro-plastics. I head down on weekends and meet with other volunteers as well to clean up.
Working out there folks would sometimes thank me but the truth is I am grateful to be outside. I love the outdoors and so the clean up really helps me as much as the environment. (its funny, as I type this AI is suggesting what I should write next. And it is doing a good job! But I am too old fashion to have a machine do my communicating for me.)
